WELCOME TO UTAH STUDIES!! PLEASE BE PATIENT as we experience the opening of this new school. We will be learning together and will adapt to fit the changing needs of the new student body and the new building!! J This is a year long class is taught to give you more knowledge about the place you live and its history. Students will explore significant people and events, cultures, environments, and locations as well as develop processing skills, geograhic perspective, and a variety of reading skills. This class is part of a team, which means students will have the same English teacher, same Science teacher, math teacher, and elective teacher. These teachers will meet regularly and collaborate to create a more sucessful student experience.
Subject Mastery, Assignments and Assessments, Homework and Behavior Expectations. All tests and assignments are based on subject mastery aligned with the Utah State Core for Utah Studies. Here is how the final grade will be calculated:
· Summative Tests 45%
· Formative Assessments/Assignments 45%
· Assignments/classwork 10%
Students will have FORMAL homework for Utah Studies infrequently. however students should do INFORMAL homework 3-4 times a week. Informal homework involves informal study for 5-10 minutes, reviewing maps, notes, vocabulary lists from the current unit of study. Participation is a key component of the learning process, as we will be seated in and working in groups often.
